Mortal Legacies

 By: Thegreenback

This is an Indie RPG game where you must save Elisia from a terrible thing and talk to the king to help save the world. As you start out it looks like a classic RPG with a story line of heroic proportions. Making your way across the land to reach your life goal of becoming a hero.
As you go across the land each town or area has different looks and the music changes with it. Getting a feel of what might be coming to either harm you or help you. Seeing in various places of how they put details the game in general. Some being that you have a wall of swords and a furnace just gives it that nice touch instead of a dude you just walk to and trade for stuff. You also come across a varied amount of people that you can talk to. Some say things that will make you laugh out loud and others can be serious. It makes you want to talk to everyone you can just to see what they will say. Also with items and gear will make you have a good chuckle with the descriptions.. You can also buy or sell all your gear. With a meter to show how much you can buy of one item with all the gold you have collected. And just a single push of a button you can see how much you can carry for either all your gold or just some with how much it cost. Making it nice to getting what you need and moving to your fights.
You have a varied amount of classes that help you on your journey some being classic that you look for and love. While other can be different but will make your party flow together nicely as they fit like a puzzle. As you level up they each have different abilities to help their quests. As each gets a leveling system too making them more powerful and helpful for the battles to come.
The combat is turn based system randomly deciding who starts the fight to get the edge thrown in it. As you use your abilities and strength to take down your enemies that stand in the way of your quest. But it is a very fast paced game even with the turned based combat. You level up nicely and not grind for days just to see that one more level to perfection. And it doesn’t feel boring with different monsters to fight and how much show up randomly as you walk or run to your destination.
Overall the game is fun I picked it up and couldn’t stop till I beat the game. You get very nice music and the lands look good with the themes. Combat isn’t really repetitive with a good variety of abilities and how you need to change your strategy to handle the battle. So for a game that cost 80 points ($1) it is well worth it and should try it out.

Saints Row

Saints Row is a game that is based off of Grand Theft Auto but with a bit of differences. As you pick how your character will look and dress with a lot of customization.
You start out in the streets and find yourself asking to be part of the “Row” where they are a gang that is ready to take on the other gangs in the city. As you get to know your fellow members you will fight, shoot, race and kill any other gang member that gets in your way. Either doing main missions or just walking down the street and starting something.

As being part of an organization you start from the bottom up. Every mission you gain more territory for you gang with some story behind them. Or you gather up members and try to take down a stronghold with waves of enemies or certain requirements. Owning more of the city will mean you get less likely to have other gangs try and take you out. Also easier to get your members to join up for mission or strongholds. Going through missions you learn more about your rival gangs with how you’re impacting them or their struggles. Giving you the choice to take down one area at a time or all at once.

To do a mission you have to earn respect points to fill a bar. And when that bar is filled you get a x1 sign or more. To get respect you can steal a car then hold another person in the car for money as cops chase you around. Some others are insurance fraud where you get cars to hit you and reach a money mark to get some cash also. They have assassination missions to find a person in the streets as you kill them with a required weapon, a harder mission to do but a lot of money. Or you can just do some racing and see if your car is fast enough for the prize. As most of them are fun and can be original, with each success you get, it becomes increasingly harder to finish. Leaving some seemingly impossible or having an unattainable goal. You can also get some new cloths to get more respect as some people will react to you differently.

With each member of your gang they seem to get random weapons from a knife to a shotgun. As you take down either cops or other gangs they can walk over a pick up better weapons to increase your chances of survival. But the AI for them is really bad they get stuck on a plant. Some just don’t follow you at all, others will run into a burning building and catch on fire. So the game tries to balance it out and allows you to revive your fallen comrades. If you get close to them just a push of a button and your poor beer on their heads and back to shooting they go.

The city is a good size one. Not so big that you get annoyed cause stuff is too far of a drive but not so small that you see everything in a short trip. As some things look like they have been copied and pasted. While others have their own look as you roam around to see what is out there.

The game also has a lot of glitches from hitting a wall and your car disappearing to trucks driving down the road and just vanish in thin air. Some people will talk to you and their mouths move but no sound comes out. A few others is your car will explode off a single bullet or you kill someone but their body will float in midair.

So the overall of the game is that it has a decent variety of weapons. The story can get a little compelling to see how things play out. Has a lot of glitches that will annoy you or making you confused to how stuff happened. A lot of customization to your character. A lot of missions to strongholds but with the respect point system holding it back forcing you to do side quest stuff but making the game last a lot longer. A good size sandbox game.

So I would give it 5.8 out of 10

There's An AppFor That!

This Week's App is.... Logo Quiz!

Logo Quiz is a free app from the App Store. It is simply a pop culture quiz on what else? Logo's! This is a very fun, addicting and usually frustrating game. Filled with hundreds of logo's spread across 8 different levels seemingly getting more difficult as the levels progress. Filled with every type of logo from very simple, easy to recognize, logo's. (i.e. Ninendo, Windows, Monster and Playstation) Going all the way up to some that you know you know what it is but just can't recall on the spot like the Miracle Network or for guys, Olay! With the levels never changing, it gives it very little replay value, but it will still keep you entertained and pissed off, all at the same time, for hours!

Aliens VS Predator

 By: Thegreenback

Aliens VS Predator is a game mostly based off the movies with how things work. As you get to play three different campaigns. Each showing you bits of a major story of how things unfold and crossing over each other.

The Aliens campaign involves you being born into captivity as you are labeled number 6. As you break free you reek havoc to the scientist that put you where you are. Trying to reach the hive as the queen tells you what needs to be done.
The Predator campaign has you going to earth to stop the Aliens from taking over the area and eventually the planet. As you kill humans and Aliens alike to take them all out for messing with your ancient hunting grounds.
The Human campaign involves you being a Marine as you are labeled “Rookie”. Just trying to survive and kill the Aliens that have killed the scientist to get back control of the base.

The combat of the game is varied with each different campaign.
As an Alien you are very fast and can climb on about anything. But you can either press a button every time to do so or do and auto transition. In small areas you keep grabbing onto different walls that you don’t want to so it gets annoying. Making the world a big playground as you stick to the dark to hide from the Marines who shoot to kill you on site. So you have to be sneaky while playing you can hiss to make enemies come closer to you then take them down one at a time. Or try all at once but with much greater difficulty. Or you can get them into a finish move where you do a short grab and either kill them instantly or harvest them. Leaving you open for a bit even if your getting shot you cant stop it and have a chance to die. As your health naturally regenerates you don’t have to worry about looking for ways to heal, just how to kill your prey. Messing around with the lighting to keep you hidden, but still can be seen even if in dark areas tends to make some stealth kills harder to do in areas.

Playing as the Predator you can turn on invisibility defense and stay that way for the whole game. Making it work very well against Marines to take them out and get a nice trophy for your collection. You can even pick a spot on the ground and copy their words to make them go in that direction to either take out or get past. As you get more into the story you come across more of your weapons giving you a wider variety of killing your enemies. Most of them are cool but you tend to stick just too just a few that you’re given or wanting to get up close to take them out. You can also jump to places that give you a better view point and move around in a faster way. Some times you can’t get to place to jump on even if highlighted and leaves you wondering why that was put in the first place. You also need to heal as you take damage making you more tactical about your kills.

Into the Marine campaign you have a wide variety of weapons that you can choose from as you progress into the game. From a standard pistol to flamethrower to keep you living longer. As the game is very dark compared to the other campaigns. You use flares to light up areas to see the Aliens shine then shoot them down quickly. Also equipped with a flashlight and motion tracker to give you a heads up to what is coming. Most of the time you are surrounded by enemies just trying to survive making you feel very fragile and at any moment you can be taken out. As you just stick to shooting almost anything that moves you keep in contact with other Marines battling the same enemies.

There is also and online capability where you can pick your race and try to kill other players across the world. They even have odd games like one becomes the hunter and others prey. Or you can do a four co-op game to survive though waves of enemies and work as a team to make it out alive.

The overall is that you can play as different characters and each has a story to tell. As you can just kill lots of enemies it can get repetitive in some areas specially the quick kills only have a few to select from. The combat is alright but not that great to you can kill about anything with just button mashing. The graphics are ok but if you get to close to some things you can see the glitches stand out.

So I would give this game 5.1 out of 10

Beyond Good & Evil HD

 By: Thegreenback

If you like action adventure, sneaking, camera, and trying to save lots of people from enemy aliens then this is the game for you. Beyond Good & Evil takes you across the universe to another planet where things called the DomZ attack the planet taking people called Hillyens for reasons unknown.
You play as Jade a girl who lost her parents to the DomZ years ago. Jade is keeping up an orphanage to help other kids who lost their parents to the attacks with Uncle Pey'j. Adventuring down the long road to helping the people of Hillys you use your staff to fight enemies all around. You can also charge up and attack to do an explosion of energy to take out more. As your biggest weapon is your camera. Taking pictures to help you do your report for a band that fights the government called the Iris Network. You can also take pictures of animal around the world making lots of money to help you buy things and make pearls, which help you upgrade your hovercraft. You also have a comrade who helps you out in fights also helps solve puzzles. They have their own health so you have to watch out for them and they will watch out for you. Each having their own attacks and dialog. Saying how they feel about certain things you get attached to them and wanting to keep them safe. One of them is your uncle Pey’j who is funny but can be serious and caucus. When he attacks he puts enemies in the air when he uses his jet boots attack. The other is Double H who is very serious but always is willing to help you fight and protect the people. As his attack is like a bull rush and can slam into enemies taking them out or even bars that get in your way. He also has armor that allows him to pass through lasers that stand in the way.
You have a feel of some free world roam around in-between the big missions you do to take down the DomZ. As you travel around on your hovercraft to take you where you want to go. As you can upgrade your hovercraft with things called pearls that you find by killing DomZ or doing certain tasks as side missions. Or even looking for animal to take pictures to earn some extra cash. With even some areas that you chase down some people to get back the cash they stole from you or racing for some pearls.
Most of the missions you do involves sneaking with action. As you figure out how to get past guards that stand in your way. Figuring out patterns and ways to take out enemies keeps changing throughout the game some places pushing what you know to the limit. As you get past areas to find pictures to take for the Iris Network.
The boss battles are grand that have a mini puzzle to figure out how to take them down. Some with help and others doing a solo act. With each boss the difficulty goes up a lot more on how to hurt them. Each boss is unique of their fighting style and will kill you if you’re not paying attention. There are no repeatable bosses or any creature that you see in the world like them.
The game was originally made for the PlayStation 2 so a lot of the graphics are last generation. As they touched it up in a lot of points to get it looking smoother and with the little touches. But you can see in certain areas where they couldn’t get it or some cut scenes.
The game is very fun with a bunch of combos of different style games that just work together to make a great adventure. With only a few things bugs and great game play with a compelling story and characters. Showing some of the last generation graphics doesn’t slow down the game at all. So for playing on the PS2 I would give the game a 8.9 but with it showing loading screens, and some age in areas for the 360 is not that amazing.
So I would give the game a 8.5 out of 10
